Case Studies

Food Processing Industry - Whole Cooked Crab
The challenge: A seasonal food processor that freezes and packages cooked crab for sale in the Japanese specialty food market required that each crab be secured to a corrugated plastic board with two rubber bands. The process of applying the rubber bands was done manually, so it was very labor intensive, expensive, and slowed the automated product line to the point where a bottleneck was created. As a result, the processor was limited in the number of pounds of product that could be processed during the limited season.  The solution: MorSwift’s RBV rubber banding systems were installed on the production line and enabled operators to apply rubber bands 8 times faster than the old manual method! The MorSwift RBV saved the crab processing company 83% per piece. The increased efficiency covered the cost of purchasing the machine in two weeks, and annual potential return on investment overall is estimated to be 390%.

Printing & Fulfillment Industry

The challenge: A mid-sized printing company had to bundle 10,000 small magazines (4”x10”) into stacks of 10. The production manager estimated it would take 2 employees 61 hours to complete the job using vinyl strapping. The printing company promised its client the work would be done in 3 days. The solution: Instead of vinyl strapping, the 2 employees used two MorSwift RBV systems and finished the job in just 12.5 hours. The Results? An 80% production time reduction versus strapping with an average cost savings of 67% per piece. Plus, customers found the rubber bands easier to remove when receiving, a magazine could be extracted without destroying the bundle integrity and the rubber bands didn’t scratch or tear the paper. Annual potential return on investment is estimated to be 762%.
